When most runners discuss carbon plate racing shoes, Nike and Adidas are always the first names mentioned. But after testing the PUMA Deviate Nitro Elite 2 for more than 400 kilometers, this low-key powerhouse completely changed my perception – it may be the most underestimated carbon plate running shoe in the market.

Unique wearing experience

The feeling of wearing it for the first time is different. Compared with the extreme feedback of “stepping on a spring” of other carbon plate shoes, this pair of shoes presents a restrained elasticity. PUMA controls the stiffness of the carbon plate in an ideal range – you can clearly feel the propulsion force without making the arch of the foot tired when jogging. This sense of balance is more obvious in the 18-kilometer long-distance test: when the pace drops from 4:30/km to 5:15/km, the shoe still maintains a consistent response characteristic, and does not become “rigid” at low speeds like some competing products.

What really amazed me was its performance on complex roads. It does not require an adaptation period like some competing products, nor does it appear over-designed in non-competitive scenarios. For runners who want to try carbon plate technology but are worried about “not being able to adapt to the local environment”, this may be the safest choice.
